I will ask you to tell me a bit more about the problem and explain what psychological therapy might entail.

High standards of ethics are important to me and I will always tell you if I think I am not right for you or if I know of a way you can gain help via the NHS.

Assessment session

This session involves me learning more about you, setting goals and starting to put together an explanation of the difficulties you are having and how to treat them. It will then be up to you to decide if you go ahead with therapy.

Therapy sessions

Therapy sessions are usually 1 hour (except CBT for PTSD which can be longer). Each course of therapy looks slightly different as it is tailored to the individual based on preferences, any previous therapy, your specific difficulties and the evidence base. The number of sessions can vary but you will usually be given a rough idea after the assessment session.

My aim is to promote independence and equip you with skills so that the investment you make in therapy is with you for life and not just the duration of our sessions.

About Me

Holding Hands

Approach

As a Clinical Psychologist I am trained to deliver a variety of psychological therapies which allows me to tailor treatment to the individual. This includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness and Narrative therapy.  â€‹

I understand it is daunting looking for therapy. You will be met with warmth, empathy and respect for the courage it has taken to get you here. We will take on the work together, although you may work on change outside of the session with pre-agreed tasks. We will go at your pace. I am privileged to say I see people make real progress and substantial life changes through psychological therapy.

Career

I have enjoyed working within Psychology and mental health for over 20 years, working across the lifespan with children, adolescents, adults & also doing couple work. Prior to the final stage of my clinical training I worked within a mental health charity (supporting adults recovering from mental illness); as a Manager of a Carers service within adult mental health; as a Research Assistant with children and young people and as a Assistant Psychologist within Pain Management and Chronic Fatigue. I did my doctoral research into Fibromyalgia. Clinical training involved CAMHS and then specialist paediatric placements at the Bristol Royal Children’s Hospital, where I also worked after qualifying. I later spent 6 years working with adults and children in an NHS service, specialising in loss and bereavement. Here I supervised and mentored Clinical Psychology Trainees, Masters students and have taught on the Clinical Psychology doctoral programme at the University of Bath. I have been in private practice since 2019.
